 All schools remain closed - FG insists amid Covid-19 
 *Ministryof Education has warned all stakeholders in the sector that schools across levels remain closed amid Covid-19 spike - In a memo dated Friday, May 8, the education ministry dismissed fake news that schools will reopen soon 

*The ministry assured that coronavirus "situation is under constant review and any decision on the resumption shall be conveyed" Following the spike in the cases of coronavirus across the country, the federal government has announced that all schools across levels remain closed. 

The government made this known through a circular dated Friday, May 8, channelled to heads of commissions and regulatory bodies in the education sector. Ministry of Education, through the memo, warned the authorities across education levels to dismiss the trending fake news that there has been an order for the reopening of the schools, samnewsch reports. 

 The circular was sent to the executive secretaries, National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the director, Basic and Secondary Education (BSE).

Source: Twitter “Further to our earlier circular, 19th March 2020, this is to confirm that all schools shall remain closed as we monitor developments on the containment of COVID-19. 

“This is without prejudice to officers on essential services and other operational exigencies as may be determined by the chief executive of each institution.


 “All chief executives and other stakeholders are to ignore ‘fake news’ on the subject matter in the social media as the situation is under constant review and any decision on the resumption shall be conveyed through the appropriate channels," part of the memo read. 

 Samnewsch had reported that in its efforts to curb the devastating spread of coronavirus in the country, the federal government has announced that it is initiating a programme of decontaminating and disinfecting schools nationwide. 

NCC reacts to alleged plans by telecoms industry to switch to 5G network on Tuesday, May 12 Muhammad Mahmood, the minister of environment, who disclosed this on Monday, May 4, at the Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja said the schools would be disinfected before they open. The minister said the Ministry of Environment is liaising with the Federal Ministry of Education to get the data of schools nationwide in order to carry out the exercise.
